Since we were travelling from Melbourne to Sydney, we choose to fly instead of drive. You could find a variety of deals depending on when you book and who you fly with. There also may be some price increase due to it being a public holiday weekend.
It was only about 1 - 11/2 hours drives from Sydney depending on traffic to Windsor Terrace Motel, where we were staying. There were also a few toll roads along the route. You can purchase an emu pass thats valid for 30 days for Sydney roads. Details for a casual pass are to the right as well as a direct link to the site apply for a pass. You can also purchase an emu pass from participating petrol stations click here to see a list.
After a recommendation from Jackie M from Jackieem photography we booked our accommodation for the first night at the Windsor Terrace Motel. The Windsor was great to stay at for the first night, a standard room cost $115pn.
The room was spacious, giving us enough room to sort out our gear and equipment. Plus it was also only 1/2 hour journey to the True Grit Enduro location, Lower Portland. It was an easy enough route, plus True Grit sign posted well as you approached the event.
As a treat we opted to stay at the Sebel Resort & Spa for 2 nights on the Sunday and Monday night $347 for two nights. There was no need for any additional accommodation for Saturday night since we were running/camping!
It was great having two nights to recover and having enough time to do whatever you needed to including having a sleep in, sorting out all your equipment, wash clothing (NB: due to the public holiday weekend, all laundrettes in and around the area including Richmond were closed). This didnt stop us finding a good location to dry everything off at the hotel.
Having a spa bath in room also assisted with the overall recovery and relaxation, ordering room service (Beef Burger / Fish & Chips) on Sunday and opting to chill. We are definitely going to book again for next year. On the plus side you also didn't have additional charges for the latest movies and internet was also included.
You could also pick up all your major supplies from Coles and Woolworths. There were also plenty of places to eat and a huge selection on bars.
Hawksbury Tourism gives you a list of accommodation, attractions, maps and whats on in within the area. Click here to visit the website.
The other option was of course to drive and we are considering that next time. We then don't actually have to worry about the luggage or equipment, we would have our own car. It would also be definately cheaper in costs (when you total the flights, petrol and car hire). Plus we would have to drive through Albury, so we could stop off and have an extra special treat at a friends patisserie Geoffrey Michael Pattissier - Trust us if you haven't checked this out, you need to. This is the ultimate after event treat.
