After an early start and a quick hello/goodbye at Mace Fitness we were setting off to Melbourne Airport, with a quick stop at my usual coffee shop for our morning coffee fix, then it was off to the airport. We had already checked in online, so it was just a matter of dropping off our luggage, of course its never as simple as that!
You would not thought we were only packing for technically 4 nights and 5 days, we had more luggage than what we had travelling around the world for a year! Who would have thought at one stage would could actually fit all our lives in one rucksack, but we could not fit all our luggage for one 24 hour event in two suitcases and we still needed to do a Coles/KMart shop.
Sydney Airport Arguments
Picking up the hire car
Getting to Kings Cross
There were a couple of options:
- I could call my prospect client and tell them I was stuck in their building stairwell (this wasn't going to happen).
- I could call the police (getting close to this option)
- Try the fire escape and set the alarm (the best option - didn't care if we set it off.)
The Client Meeting
According to Dave we were on holiday so this meant a couple of Guinness's to set off the weekends events, personally I wouldn't have called it a holiday. The meeting lasted an hour and went well considering my obviousness that I was completely franticness, so I called Dave to find out where he was (in an Irish pub, in Kings Cross, drinking a Guinness). By this stage I was desperate to spend a penny (go to the toilet), so we headed back to the pub, Dave had another Guinness whilst I had a nice refreshing glass of water, we then took this opportunity to work out a plan of action for the rest of the day. Find out where the closest Coles/Kmart was to top on the supplies needed for Enduro.
Quick shop and then off we go to Windsor
We were eventually heading off to Windsor, Yeeppee!! Almost.... it was a public holiday long weekend so we got caught in a hideous amount of traffic, an hours journey took over 2 hours. Plus it didn't help that off course we took a wrong turning and then we had to find a suitable spot along a freeway to do a U turn to head back in the right direction. After sitting in traffic for hours on end and by the looks of it everyone was heading to Windsor for the weekend (apparently they also had a boat race on in Dargle and some horse equestrian event. So it doesn't really help that there really is only one main road in and out of Windsor.
Setting up for Enduro
We eventually made it to the motel, so the next thing to do was to get all the bags, boxes, food and try and sort out our shit for the following day. Of course we were not going to lug two suitcases across the campsite, so we distributed what we needed clothing wise in two of the tubs, food was all put into one day bag, then we had a First Aid Bag which included all warm heat packs etc.. All supplements were put in a little tub and were bagged at home (this could have looked really strange if we had our bags checked, since we individually bagged each serve of BCAA, creatine and protein). Once we had everything prepared and ready, we were then heading off to meet everyone from the Going Long 2015 Facebook Page.
Going Long 2015 (Enduro)
There was a certain buzz in the air as everyone talked tactics and strategies, past experiences and what is the best way forward. It was great to actually finally meet Maryanne having spoken so frequently on Facebook, also hearing her and Shaun's stories about their progression into OCR. It was also great to finally meet Rin Rin (the OCR queen, she has just been absolutely amazing throughout all the faqs that were constantly posted on fb. I swear she never sleeps. It was also great to meet Adam and Melanie Currey, Melanie using this as a platform for her next challenge - Worlds Toughest Mudder held in Vegas. Before long it was actually time to start thinking about heading back to try and get a good nights sleep before the next journey that will either make us or break us tomorrow.
